🎬 In the Series:
First Appearance: Season 1, Episode 1 – “The Righteous Gemstones”
Featured Throughout the Series
The stately Southern mansion of Eli Gemstone serves as the heart of the Gemstone family empire. Introduced in the very first episode, this sprawling estate represents the family’s wealth, legacy, and complicated dynamics. With its grand columns, moss-draped oaks, and sweeping grounds, the home is often seen in quiet, contemplative moments featuring Eli, acting as a visual anchor to his role as the patriarch.
The mansion featured in the series is Fenwick Hall, a historic property located on Johns Island, South Carolina. It appears repeatedly across the seasons, mostly in establishing shots and exterior scenes. Its timeless beauty and serene surroundings make it a perfect stand-in for the Gemstones’ deeply rooted Southern influence.
📍 In Real Life:
Fenwick Hall is a privately-owned historic plantation home situated at 30 Fenwick Hall Allee on Johns Island, SC. Originally built in the 1730s, it’s one of the oldest and most architecturally significant homes in the area. Though the estate is not open to the public, it remains an admired landmark for its preserved Georgian style and dramatic setting.
You can catch a glimpse of the front gate and driveway from Maybank Highway, which offers just enough of a peek to recognize the exterior used in the show.
📝 Respectful Visitor Tip: Please do not attempt to enter the grounds, as this is private property. However, fans are welcome to view and photograph the gated entrance from a respectful distance—it’s still a great way to capture the Southern Gothic vibe of the Gemstone compound.
